The ‘6 month smile’ concept has been designed for dentists NOT orthodontists. With our knowledge, experience and with what we have seen with their patients-it does not work! But do not take our word for it, read the following articles and make your own decision:
Generally, we will want to see you every 6-10 weeks, depending on your brace, to check your progress and make adjustments to your braces. You will need to keep appointments, as they are an important part of your overall treatment, follow instructions, as well as practice good oral hygiene and proper nutrition. Once your braces are removed, retainers are utilized to hold your teeth in their new positions until you bone, gums, and muscles adapt to the new teeth positions. The retention period is an important part of your overall treatment and should not be neglected!
Braces may be on between 6 months to 30 months depending on the age of the patient, the severity of the problem, the patient’s cooperation, and the degree of movement possible.
